About

charli profile picI am a multimedia storyteller with experience in investigative journalism, beat reporting, social media management, and entertainment news. While I write on a variety of topics, my work tends to revolve around the city of Chicago, queer culture, online subcultures, and marginalized voices. I am also a skilled copywriter, digital marketing specialist, and live events producer.

I currently work as a social media manager and journalist at the Chicago Reader where in addition to promoting the publication’s work, I also write about the local performing arts scene. My past professional experience includes serving as a news reporter for Built In, the founding EIC of Secret Chicago, resource coordinator and writer for Fandom Forward, a non-profit that used pop culture to teach activism, and associate editor of The Jackalope.

I have been published by a number of other publications including Block Club Chicago, Wizards in Space, Glyph Literary Magazine, The Denver Post, Calling Upon Calliope and many more. My first collection of creative nonfiction, Interrobang was published in 2017, and explores trauma, addiction, grief, and pop culture analysis.

I have been honored to speak at a number of events and on panels about fan activism and pop culture. My public appearances include SFAI 140, Denver Pop Culture Con, and The Granger Leadership Academy.
